One of EJA Lighting’s earliest projects, this wine country home was designed for a San Francisco couple who were avid design enthusiasts and art collectors. Widely acclaimed and published, the house was at once a gallery and a very personal home for everyday life.

Designed by renowned Mexican architect Ricardo Legoretta, a disciple of famed architect Luis Barragon, this modernist home — a grid of terracotta-hued concrete cubes — is designed to capture the light and relate to the Sonoma County hills, while providing the setting for the couple’s vast collection of contemporary art. With vast interior spaces and vaulted corridors, the interplay of natural and sourced lighting is intricate and precise, seamlessly integrated into the architecture. Pocketed niches inset with aimable light sources, the lighting solutions themselves become part of the structures restrained but impactful architectural detailing.
