This project in San Francisco’s Sea Cliff neighborhood adds a contemporary extension to a traditional multi-story home.

A daring excavation under the existing home creates additional space for a subterranean sport court and spa, which overlook a terrace and infinity-edge pool with dramatic views of the Gold Gate Bridge. Recessed lights on the terrace are augmented by monopoints integrated into the sculptural glass cover. Lit with a combination of directional lighting supplemented by more uniform lighting to create an evenly-lit playing surface on the basketball court and in-ground wall accents to highlight the walls of the double-height stair, the warm glow of the wood-lined interior forms a cohesive indoor-outdoor experience.
