Saint Joseph Art’s Society
Founded by designer Ken Fulk and set inside a former Romanesque Revival church, this creative and cultural hub supports art and design through multi-disciplinary programming, exhibitions and events. The goal for the lighting was to bring something magical to Ken Fulk’s singular interiors. Historic architecture, dramatic new interiors and a cohesive lighting scheme work together to transport members and visitors to another world.
Constructed in 1913, this 22,000-square-foot national historic landmark in downtown San Francisco had been left vacant and damaged following the 1989 earthquake until it was resurrected in 2018. To make the lighting scheme as uncomplicated as possible, with the highest impact, the lighting design team worked layer by layer to provide flexible lighting solutions that could support a broad array of uses. Uplighting tucked into the existing cornice and bridge takes advantage of architectural elements to accentuate the romanticism of the structure, flexible lighting solutions support the versatility of the numerous breakout rooms, and sophisticated colored lighting can set the mood for an infinite variety of events.
