Junior Associate Lighting Designer

Position Description

The Junior Associate Lighting Designer position involves creating and managing lighting designs on many concurrent projects at the direction of the Principal and in collaboration with a team of Associate Lighting Designers. The candidate will have solid experience with residential or commercial lighting design, lighting products and controls, and the ability to demonstrate their experience in AutoCAD.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and revise lighting layouts and specifications using AutoCAD®

  • Attend project meetings and take notes of any changes that would affect a lighting layout

  • Collaborate and develop relationships with external design and construction team members

  • Monitor project phases, track lighting design tasks by phase and accurately document all time spent

  • Establish daily project priorities to meet deadlines

  • Manage multiple plan sets on multiple projects

  • Research lighting products and develop relationships with lighting manufacturer’s reps

  • Create preliminary lighting control system layouts

  • Create fixture specifications, lighting submittals and ordering cut sheets

  • Attend site visits when necessary

  • Visit project sites upon completion to perform final lighting adjustments/focusing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, preferred or equivalent experience + AA degree

  • Strong, verifiable, computer skills in AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Current knowledge of residential or commercial lighting products and controls

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
