Big Ranch Road

This award-winning project, featured in the book At Home in the Wine Country and in multiple design publications, transforms a turn-of-the-century hay barn into a private entertaining venue that is as much art as it is architecture.

This project is a work of art composed of architecture and light. Designed for avid art collectors, the rustic structure, carefully placed in the Napa Valley landscape, is set upon a contemporary plinth, with a mirrored intervention constructed within. A central entertainment space is framed by a gym/yoga room on one end, and a bar, catering kitchen, powder room and storage on the other. Designed to echo the dichotomy between rustic exterior and contemporary interior, the lighting forms a consistent glow through the structure's open slatted walls. The artistic composition of light and shadow creates a close connection between interior and exterior space. Linear accent lighting defines the approach and perimeter of the plinth. Inside the barn, decorative pendants are complemented by linear strip lighting that washes the underside of the roof, while mirrored wall draws the experience of the landscape lighting into the interior.
