Woodside Residence

Set on a hillside sit in San Mateo County, this contemporary home nestles into the sloping site while simultaneously opening outward toward the expansive property and views of the San Francisco Bay. With copious amounts of mullioned glass, the house glows like a warm lantern set upon the knoll.

The lighting is devised to help form a journey through landscape on the 13-acre site. On the interior, the goal was to form evenly lit spaces. Linear lighting and recessed lighting call attention to the architecture, while adding warmth and richness to the materials, predominantly reclaimed sinker cypress on the exterior, and white oak, board-formed concrete, blackened steel and zinc on the interior.
