Dierberg Vineyard

Our focus for this destination winery was to form a careful balance between functional lighting for the making of wine, and accent lighting to highlight the distinctive architecture and create a compelling hospitality experience.

Tucked into the Santa Rita Hills in Southern California’s Santa Ynez Valley, this 20,000-square-foot winery, with 27,000 square feet of caves, invokes provincial France. Characterized by round towers, rustic stone masonry and red tile roofs, its grand inner courtyard is surrounded by a tasting room, offices, a testing lab, and a kitchen. The lighting design emphasizes the texture of the architectural materials, the height of the soaring interior spaces, the drama of the extensive cave structure and the inherent artistry of the wine barrels themselves. In-ground, indirect and direct accent lighting work together to highlight the dynamism of the design details.
