About the Role

The Associate Lighting Designer position involves creating and managing the lighting design on many concurrent projects, collaborating with the Principals and a team of Lighting Designers. The candidate will have solid experience with residential or commercial lighting design, lighting products and controls, and the ability to demonstrate their experience in AutoCAD.

If you have prior lighting design or electrical engineering experience, exceptional communication and organizational skills, are easy to work with and enjoy a team environment, you may qualify for this position.

What You'll Do

  • Create lighting layouts, fixture specifications, lighting submittals and ordering cut sheets

  • Create preliminary lighting control system layouts

  • Develop Ketra circuiting detail

  • Create Design Review Plans

  • Add circuiting, power supplies and fixture tags to lighting plans

  • Respond to LSK’s

  • Attend internal project meetings and take notes of any changes that would affect a lighting layout

  • Manage multiple plan sets on multiple projects

  • Monitor project phases and budgets, track lighting design tasks by phase and accurately document all time spent on projects by phase

  • Establish daily project priorities to meet project deadlines

  • Delegate specification and drafting-related work to EJA team when possible

  • Communicate critical project details with Principal and EJA design team

  • Vet new lighting and control products with EJA team

  • Collaborate and develop relationships with external design and construction team members

  • Attend external project meetings and take notes of anything that affects the lighting layout

  • Perform site visits/site supervision when necessary to verify installation

  • Visit project sites upon completion to perform final lighting adjustments/focusing

What You Bring

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in residential or commercial lighting design or electrical engineering

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, or electrical engineering preferred

  • Strong, verifiable, computer skills in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Experience with Revit, InDesign, 3D rendering a plus

  • Current knowledge of residential or commercial lighting products and controls

  • Current knowledge of CA Title-24 Energy Code

  • Excellent oral communication skills, including demonstrated confidence and comfort communicating with clients and project team members to obtain information necessary to design efficient and effective lighting

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment

  • Experience with residential lighting manufacturers

  • Experience with electrical design a plus

  • Ability to climb and perform work on ladders and/or scaffolding

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
